Evaluation, Intake and Referrals for Service

Individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in New York State can apply for supports and services by contacting any DDSO or voluntary agency. A staff person responsible for intake will then assist the person seeking services in identifying needs and service options. Diagnosis of a developmental disability must be made by a physician or licensed psychologist. OMRDD certifies clinics that can make the diagnosis and recommendations for services. Referral services provide information on programs and services for individuals and their families. Linkages can be made to diagnostic, residential, habilitative, educational, vocational, medical and recreational services, and to entitlement programs such as Medicaid and SSI.
